A helicopter service, called Uber Copter will start in July for the transit of passengers between lower Manhattan and JFK Airport in the coming July. This new service can be booked through the app of Uber by the customers with the average cost of $200-$225 including car service to and from helipad for the convenience.
The rides will be accessible primarily in New York City for the Uber users who are the Platinum and Diamond members of Uber rewards. The flight duration time is about eight minutes and has been started with the aim of reducing the total time between these places which are around 60 minutes at present and in case of rush hours, it can exceed up to two hours. Further, the flight will have the capacity of up to 5 passengers along with 2 pilots and the price will also include the ground transport of passengers to and fro from each point.
The booking for the Uber Copters can be done on immediate basis or you can also book in advance as per your comfort. The confirmation of their reservation will be mailed to them from Uber along with the boarding pass for the flight. The customers will be picked and dropped by car to the Uber copter helipad in lower Manhattan near the Staten Island Ferry and received by car to the terminal 8 in Kennedy International airport. The helicopters will be regulated by HeliFlite charter service and the passengers will be shown a 90-second safety video before the take off.
Heavy luggage is not allowed in the copter flights as they don’t have space or capacity of large bags and passengers are only allowed to carry only 1 personal bag with weight of 40 pounds or less. It is only available New York City for present, but can be brought to other cities in future too. It will offer a real presentation of first Elevate experience and this is Uber’s first multi-modal option which integrates a short helicopter flight with an Uber trip on both ends with a single tap. This is going to start with the aim of saving huge amount of time of travelers along with understanding of the operations behind the airy vehicles.
